Today, Sony introduces the Sony A7R VI, a full-frame camera that combines the R series’ high resolution with the speed of a stacked sensor for the first time. With 66.8 megapixels, 30 fps blackout-free shooting, and AI-powered autofocus, Sony sets a new standard for hybrid professionals. The camera will be available starting in June 2026 and is available to pre-order from Cameranu today.
The A7R VI was developed to bridge the gap between extreme detail and action-ready speed. By implementing a newly developed Exmor RS stacked sensor and the BIONZ XR2 processor, the sensor can be read out in fractions of a second.
This results in a significant reduction in rolling shutter and enables features such as Pre-Capture, in which the camera stores images before the shutter button is fully pressed.
Workflow and control
“Sony built this model for the discerning image-maker for whom the highest image quality is essential, without technology getting in the way of the workflow,” says Dennis Rensink, Senior Category Manager at Cameranu.
“It is a camera built to perform under pressure, whether you are shooting handheld or working in a complex studio setup.
By combining 66.8 megapixels with improved Real-time Recognition AF+, the camera anticipates the action before you do. The result is a refined image with 16 stops of dynamic range.”
Speed and intelligence
“For the first time, the R line is now truly complete,” says photographer Olivier Groot, who was among the first to put the camera through its paces during the Historic Grand Prix in Monaco.
“It is no longer just that high-resolution landscape camera, but a hybrid workhorse with the speed to shoot sports and wildlife without compromise. The fact that Sony maintains this level of detail at 30 frames per second makes it a radically complete camera for me.”
