The large-aperture Sony FE 16mm F1.8 G is a premium, high-resolution ultra-wide-angle G Lens. Its compact, lightweight design makes it easy to carry. Paired with the latest Sony Alpha cameras, it is well suited to landscapes, architecture, starry skies, and close-ups, while providing precise, quiet autofocus (AF).
The FE 16mm F1.8 G is a wide-angle lens designed for detailed, dynamic rendering. Its optical design includes two AA (Advanced Aspherical) elements that help deliver high resolution at different aperture settings.
A Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element, combined with three ED elements, also helps reduce chromatic aberration all the way to the edges of the frame.
This G Lens produces smooth bokeh thanks to its large F1.8 maximum aperture and circular 11-blade diaphragm. It performs well for close-ups, with a minimum focusing distance of 0.15 m / 0.5 ft and maximum magnification of 0.25x using autofocus (0.13 m and 0.30x with manual focus). This makes it possible to capture wide-angle perspectives with smooth, refined bokeh.
Two XD (Extreme Dynamic) linear motors ensure fast and precise autofocus and tracking. A specially developed control algorithm for these motors improves response and reduces lag and vibration that can typically occur.
For smooth video, the lens helps reduce focus breathing. Breathing compensation is also supported on compatible Alpha cameras, while in-body Active Mode image stabilization makes it easier to record stable wide-angle video, even while moving. The lens accepts standard 67 mm front filters and is easy to balance on a gimbal.
The lens is equipped with a focus ring, focus-hold button, focus-mode switch, aperture ring, and iris-lock switch. The focus-hold button can also be assigned custom functions. The aperture ring provides manual control and has a click ON/OFF switch for added flexibility.
The focus-mode switch makes it easy to alternate between autofocus and manual focus. A dust- and moisture-resistant design and a fluorine coating on the front element contribute to durability and reliability.
