In March this year, National Geographic Documentary will release its brand new docuseries PHOTOGRAPHER from Academy and EMMY award-winning filmmakers E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, among others.
This 6-part series follows seven world-famous photographers, each with their own unique expertise when it comes to capturing different disciplines, ranging from fashion to nature.
The photographers featured in this series are none other than fashion photographer Campbell Addy, ocean and conservation photography duo Cristina Mittermeier and Paul Nicklen, photojournalist Muhammed Muheisen, science photographer Anand Varma, portrait photographer Dan Winters and adventure photographer Krystle Wright.
PHOTOGRAPHER takes us on a journey with the world's most extraordinary visual storytellers in the search for their perfect picture. Through images of a specific mission, interwoven with background information, archival material and interviews, viewers at home gain a better insight into the unique process of each photographer. In addition, during each episode it becomes clear how they ended up behind the camera and how they see and experience the current world.
Photojournalist Muhammed Muheisen is one of the photographers in the docuseries. Muheisen is a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning National Geographic photojournalist and the founder and chairman of the Dutch non-profit organization Everyday Refugees Foundation.
This special foundation, based in Amsterdam, aims to document, educate and, where possible, support refugees, local communities and internally displaced people affected by conflict, poverty, discrimination and natural disasters in various parts of the world.
The episode of PHOTOGRAPHER, featuring Muheisen, focuses on his transformation from photojournalist to activist. Among other things, he takes you on his current mission: documenting the stories of Ukrainian war refugees, particularly aimed at children on the Ukrainian and Romanian borders.
A very relevant and poignant subject in the current zeitgeist where you see the struggles of a photographer who wants to report on the fate of these children, but also develops an emotional and close bond with them.
