Peak Design is expanding its Travel line with the Travel Backpack 2-in-1, a modular travel backpack that should not be confused with the existing Travel Backpack. The system consists of a 34-liter base bag and a detachable 16-liter daypack. Together, they form a 40-liter carry-on backpack, while both bags can also be used separately.

The base bag serves as the main compartment for clothing, camera gear, and travel accessories. Its main compartment opens wide, keeping Peak Design Packing Cubes and Camera Cubes within easy reach. There is also room for a laptop up to 16 inches and a tablet.
The bag has padded shoulder straps, a removable hip belt, and a back panel designed to make heavier loads more comfortable to carry. Photographers will be especially interested in its compatibility with Camera Cubes, which make it relatively easy to convert the bag from a travel backpack into a camera backpack.
The detachable daypack has a 16-liter capacity and is intended for lighter days on the go. Think city walks, short hikes, or a day when you only need a laptop, jacket, water bottle, and a few personal items. This smaller backpack also has a protected laptop compartment, quick-access pockets, and a luggage pass-through for use on a rolling suitcase.
As usual for Peak Design, considerable attention has gone into the materials and finish. The Travel Backpack 2-in-1 is made from weather-resistant 330D nylon canvas with a reinforced 900D base. The fabrics are Bluesign approved, among other certifications; the water-repellent coating is PFAS-free, and the bag is Fair Trade Certified. The zippers are robust, and the exterior has attachment points for additional carry straps.
At 2.45 kilograms for the complete set, the Travel Backpack 2-in-1 is not an ultralight solution. The trade-off is that you are effectively carrying two backpacks without having to pack two separate bags. For travelers who want to pack compactly but still need flexibility on the road, this is a smart solution—especially for photographers who prefer to organize their luggage and camera gear in a single modular system.
