In the photography book On Beauty, we are invited and challenged to see the world through Jenny Boot’s eyes. The book is a beautiful survey of the photographer’s work over the years.
Jenny Boot initially experimented with painting but ultimately found her artistic medium in photography. Her photographs evoke the work of the Dutch Old Masters through similar themes and use of light.
Although beauty is the starting point in Jenny’s work, her photographs are more than purely aesthetic. The longer you look, the more their layers reveal themselves. Her work is contemporary and draws attention to current issues.

For example, Jenny created a contemporary interpretation of the iconic painting Girl with a Pearl Earring by Vermeer, photographing a Black model in a similar setting. The work was prompted by the realization that Black models are almost entirely absent from museums.
She also created a series of portraits of women wearing old-fashioned ruff collars. On closer inspection, however, the collars turn out not to be made of fabric but of materials such as banknotes, cigarettes, and sanitary pads.
