Nikon is developing the Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S telephoto zoom

Nikon has announced that it is developing a new professional telephoto zoom lens for the Z system. The Nikon Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S is designed for full-frame/FX-format mirrorless cameras and is currently still in development.

The lens will offer a zoom range of 120 to 300 mm and a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8. A notable feature is the built-in 1,4x teleconverter, which extends the range to 420 mm. This means that, in certain situations, photographers will not need to attach a separate teleconverter when they quickly need extra reach.

With this type of lens, Nikon is clearly targeting photographers who often work with a telephoto lens, such as sports, wildlife and action photographers. Flexibility is especially important for these kinds of subjects: sometimes you need to react quickly to nearby action, while shortly afterward you may need more reach for a subject farther away.

The NIKKOR Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S will join Nikon's S-Line. In this series, Nikon offers lenses that emphasize high optical quality, robust construction and precise craftsmanship. Further specifications, pricing and availability have not yet been announced.

Above all, the announcement shows that Nikon is continuing to expand the professional side of the Z system. For photographers who rely on fast telephoto lenses, this could be an interesting lens to keep an eye on.
