Nikon Z 35mm f/1.2 S Lens

Nikon Z 35mm f/1.2 S lens

Nikon is adding a new 35mm lens to its premium S-Line: the Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 S. This lens combines a wide aperture with a carefully considered optical design, resulting in high image quality and natural depth of field. It performs strongly in low light and delivers smooth bokeh, while special lens elements and coatings minimize unwanted reflections and distortion. Thanks to its accurate autofocus and intuitive controls, the lens is suitable for a wide range of situations, from portraits to documentaries and film productions.

The 35mm focal length has been popular with image-makers for decades. Thanks to the Z mount and advanced optical design, this lens can capture more light and render details more sharply than ever.

Key features

The classic 35 mm focal length delivers masterful image reproduction: phenomenal resolving power provides detailed, accurate rendering of subjects at every focus distance. Color clarity and contrast are exceptional across the entire frame.

Very large maximum aperture of f/1.2: for aesthetic control in any kind of light. You can render the smallest part of a subject sharply against smooth bokeh, even when shooting at close range.

Sublime bokeh: the eleven rounded aperture blades and advanced optical design create beautifully round, soft bokeh without color fringing, even around point light sources.

Precision S-Line optics: the optical formula consists of 17 elements in 15 groups. Specialized ED and SR lens elements work together to counter light dispersion and prevent color fringing, distortion, and aberrations.

Exceptional clarity: Nikon’s anti-reflective coatings—Meso Amorphous Coat, ARNEO Coat, and Nano Crystal Coat—reduce flare and ghosting for a clearer image, even when shooting against the light.

A filmmaker’s favorite: the classic focal length of 35 mm combined with the wide f/1.2 aperture allows filmmakers to shape the story with fluid precision. Focus breathing is suppressed, and linear focusing can be enabled for controlled manual focus using the focus ring.

Fast, tack-sharp AF: the multi-focus system delivers precision and speed, even when working with a very shallow depth of field. Dual stepping motors provide fast, continuous adjustments to keep the focus point sharp.

Effortless operation: two L-Fn buttons are positioned for horizontal and vertical shooting. The large, knurled focus ring operates smoothly, and the control ring is fully customizable.

Rugged: the robust lens body is well sealed around the barrel joints and buttons, while a rubber gasket helps prevent dust, dirt, or moisture from entering the lens mount.

Compatible with 82 mm filters: the Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 S accepts the same wide range of 82 mm screw-in filters as the 50 mm and 85 mm S-Line f/1.2 lenses.

Part of the S-Line f/1.2 trio: depth of field, color fidelity, tone, bokeh, and perspective shift while remarkably consistent image characteristics are retained across the Nikkor Z f/1.2 S-Line lenses at 50 mm, 85 mm and 35 mm.
