James Dean died at age 24 after a short but remarkable career, making him one of the greatest Hollywood icons of all time. Life was directed by acclaimed Dutch filmmaker Anton Corbijn, whose earlier films include A Most Wanted Man, The American, and Control. In 1955, the year Dean died, photographer Dennis Stock made a series of photographs for LIFE Magazine that immortalized him in a way no one had before.
In Life, we follow the young and ambitious photographer Dennis Stock (Pattinson). One day, he is assigned to photograph rising star James Dean (DeHaan) for LIFE Magazine.
During the assignment, they travel from Los Angeles to Indiana and form an extraordinary friendship. It becomes a trip they will never forget. A photograph taken during the journey became the world-famous image of James Dean that remained widely recognizable decades later.
At first, the photographer in the story is driven by the fear that his dream of becoming an artist will not come true, and it demoralizes him. Dennis Stock doubted whether he could reach the highest level in his profession, and meeting James Dean profoundly influenced his life and, above all, his work.
