Leica Noctilux-M 35mm f/1.2 ASPH.

Leica Introduces the Noctilux-M 35mm f/1.2 ASPH.

Leica is expanding the Noctilux range with a new focal length. The Leica Noctilux-M 35 mm f/1.2 ASPH. is the first Noctilux M lens with a 35mm angle of view, combining the series’ signature fast maximum aperture with the versatile 35 mm perspective.

Since the first Noctilux was introduced in 1966, this lens line within the Leica M system has been known for exceptional optical performance and distinctive rendering. The new 35mm version brings that signature to a focal length popular with documentary, street, and portrait photographers.

First Noctilux With a 35 mm Focal Length

At its maximum aperture, the Noctilux-M 35 mm f/1.2 ASPH. delivers bright, high-contrast images with a shallow depth of field. This produces soft bokeh and clear separation between subject and background while keeping the surroundings recognizable. Stopping down increases depth of field in a controlled way.

Until now, the Noctilux series consisted exclusively of lenses with focal lengths of 50 and 75 mm. With the 35 mm f/1.2, Leica brings Noctilux technology to a more versatile focal length suited to available-light work, documentary and street photography, and portraiture.

New Optical Design and Close Focusing

The Noctilux-M 35 mm f/1.2 ASPH. is an entirely new design with a floating element that maintains consistent image quality throughout the focusing range. The lens focuses as close as 50 cm. When used with Leica M cameras with rangefinder , focusing through the optical rangefinder is possible down to 70 cm; Live View or an electronic viewfinder is used at shorter distances.

The long focus throw supports precise manual focusing. The optical design comprises ten lens elements in five groups, including three aspherical elements. Leica uses technologies including Precision Glass Molding (PGM).

Compact Design

Despite its fast maximum aperture, the lens is relatively compact. The Noctilux-M 35 mm f/1.2 ASPH. is approximately 5 cm long, 6.5 cm in diameter, and weighs about 415 grams. An integrated lens hood helps reduce reflections and flare while supporting high contrast and natural color reproduction.

Price and Availability

The Leica Noctilux-M 35 mm f/1.2 ASPH. is available from January 29, 2026. The suggested retail price is €8,950 including VAT.
