'New York—this is one of my favorite photographs, taken a long time ago. It was one of my first trips to the city that never sleeps, and it was wonderful to take in so many impressions there.
This photograph is definitely among my best work; it carries so much emotion and tells its own story. The image is often an important part of my exhibitions and was the cover photograph for my book Travelphotographies.
Sir Roger Moore, who has since become a good friend of my wife Nelly and me, was also very impressed by the image and bought a print for himself. That made the image even more important to me.'
