The Fujifilm XF 8mm F3.5 R WR is an ultra-wide-angle (UWA) prime lens with the widest angle of view in the Fujinon XF lens range for Fujifilm X Series cameras. It offers an angle of view of 121 degrees diagonally and 112 degrees horizontally.
Although humans have a broad field of vision, the average person’s effective active field of view is limited to just 60 degrees. This UWA 8mm lens captures an area roughly twice as wide as the effective human field of view. That makes it an ideal choice for photographing expansive landscapes.
An 8mm focal length is equivalent to 12mm in 35mm film format. This gives the lens the widest angle of view in Fujifilm’s XF lens range, while producing edge-to-edge sharpness without distortion at the edges or in the corners.
This UWA lens has high resolving power and renders fine detail. Whether the scene contains branches, leaves or a vast wilderness, every detail is captured with precision. The same applies to decorative details in a cathedral or temple.
The lens’s compact design makes it highly portable, letting photographers enjoy UWA photography without carrying a heavy lens in their bag.
The lens consists of twelve elements arranged in nine groups, including three aspherical elements and two ED elements.
The characteristically short travel of an ultra-wide-angle lens’s focus group is combined with an Inner Focus system to achieve a very fast AF speed of just 0.02 seconds. This is particularly useful for action photography that takes advantage of the UWA perspective. Because a wide-angle lens generally offers greater depth of field, the aperture can be stopped down to facilitate pan focusing.
The lens is sealed at ten points to resist moisture, dust and adverse weather, and can operate at temperatures as low as -10°C. The front lens element has a fluorine coating that repels water and helps protect against smudges. This lets photographers work with confidence in conditions such as light rain or dusty environments, whether they are photographing landscapes, taking snapshots or shooting travel photography.
The XF 8mm F3.5 R WR is 52.8mm long, weighs just 215g and uses the popular 62mm filter size. This is convenient because a wide variety of filters are readily available and can be attached to the lens with ease.
