Juliet Hacking has been program director of the MA in Photography (Contemporary and Historical Photography) at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London since 2006. Before that, she spent three years as head of Sotheby’s photography department in London.
She earned her BA, MA, and PhD from the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. Her dissertation was titled: Photography Personified: Art and Identity in British Photography 1857–1869. Hacking has been a visiting lecturer at the University of Derby, the University of Reading, and the Courtauld Institute. For the National Portrait Gallery in London, she curated the exhibition Princes of Victorian Bohemia: Photographs by David Wilkie Winfield .
