‘I don’t have a favorite photograph. That one telling image means nothing to me—unless it comes from your personal world, something that is more about memory and subject than about photography.
A photograph of someone you love, such as this one of my father a few weeks before he died. What can it mean to other people? They may recognize something in such a photograph, but that is a matter of chance. It was certainly never the starting point when I made it.
I no longer consider myself a photographer. I have become part of the mass of people who own a camera and occasionally use it to photograph the things and beings they hold dear. I made this photograph because I wanted one last photograph of my father.’
