The Salt of the Earth presents a portrait of world-renowned photographer Sebastião Salgado, known for projects including Workers, Other Americas, Africa, and Genesis.
For the past forty years, the Brazilian photographer has traveled across continents, following in the footsteps of an ever-changing humanity. He photographed forgotten places and people, as well as some of the defining events of our time: international conflicts, famine, and mass displacement. He then set out to discover magnificent landscapes and wild flora and fauna.
This remarkable documentary received the Special Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Sebastião Salgado's life and work are revealed by his son, director Juliano Ribeiro Salgado, and by director Wim Wenders, who previously made the successful 3D documentary PINA. Together, they accompanied Sebastião on his far-ranging travels.
