'I don't have a favorite photograph. Each time, I try to question myself anew and explore the medium of photography more deeply.
At the time, I had just presented an exhibition at Breda Photo featuring my latest book, …Neither here nor there…. I worked on it for eight years, seeking to find a place for this story of my dual identity in the Netherlands and Turkey. I stuck to 1 camera, lens and film so I could examine not only the story but also the medium.

At that point, it was time to take a new direction, changing the technique while preserving the essence.
Two beautiful Turkish women are sitting in the sea, smoking a cigarette. The woman on the left is scrubbing her skin with sand while looking into a small mirror. They are two beautiful Turkish women who seem untouched by every stereotype—an intimate scene that makes your heart give a warm little leap.'
