At its launch, Canon Europe announced the long-awaited EOS R3 – especially recommended for sports photography and reportage. The camera combines the speed and familiarity of Canon's EOS-1 series with the many innovations of the EOS R System.
The completely new 24.1 Megapixel backside illuminated stacked CMOS sensor gives the EOS R3 lightning-fast image registration and improved response.
This powerful sensor almost completely eliminates rolling shutter distortion and with fast shutter speeds – from 30 seconds to 1/64000th of a second – this helps sensor sports photographers to capture the fastest subjects. (When using the electronic shutter. The mechanical shutter offers a choice of 1/8000th of a second to 30 seconds.)
When using the electronic shutter, photographers can shoot at up to 30 fps with AE and AF tracking, even on RAW files, and there are options for shooting at 15 fps and 3 fps.
The electronic shutter can also be used for the first time with strobes from both Canon and other brands.
The high speed of the EOS R3 not only refers to the number of images per second, but also applies to focusing. The EOS R3 can focus in 0.03 seconds, making it the fastest camera in the EOS R series at the time.
Eye Control AF
The Eye Control AF is an intuitive and new method of AF point selection that moves the focus point to where the photographer is looking. So in situations where a story can unfold quickly, the photographer can instinctively focus on the action with just a glance.
