The iPhone 13: A Major Camera Update

The iPhone 13: A Major Camera Update | Fotografie.nl

Want to capture the perfect picture? With the iPhone 13 Pro you can take Instagram-worthy photos in an instant. Photography has taken an unprecedented flight thanks to mobile phones, tablets and cameras. It's hard to imagine, but long ago, a second copy of a unique photo could not be printed and color photos were a rare phenomenon.

After the digital SLR camera came digital smartphone cameras. Apple smartphones have become indispensable. The new phone is known for its beautiful photos, but what else can you expect from the new iPhone?

Ease of use and size

The iPhone 13 Pro has a smaller notch (the notch at the top of the screen) that houses the sensors for face ID, the selfie camera and the microphone, and the 6.1-inch screen is an OLED XDR Retina display. The size remains ideal. The iPhone fits easily in your pocket, due to its narrow and flat size. The primary purpose of the smartphone is to be in quick contact via telephone, e-mail and social media. That's why it fits easily in your hand.

Traditional cameras generally last longer than the smartphone, because the digital camera is made for one purpose. Mobile phones last about two years, the lifespan of a digital camera is ten years. In addition to the camera function, the smartphone has many other functions, such as navigation, calling, surfing and apps.

...larger sensors, larger lens size and faster apertures...

And a smartphone is more user-friendly; Wherever you are, you can capture all the moments very quickly. iPhones have shortcuts that allow you to quickly navigate to your camera. The new A15 chip also provides even more speed than the already super-fast A14 chip of the iPhone 12.

Batteries and charging

However, smartphone batteries are also lasting longer than those of digital cameras. For example, the battery of the iPhone 13 Pro has excellent battery life. At launch, Apple promised the iPhone 13 Pro would offer an hour and a half more battery life than its predecessor, the iPhone 12 Pro. It was also expected that, thanks to the improvements, the iPhone 13 Pro battery would last longer than the usual two years, so that you still do not have to charge during the day.

Although charging the phone is slower than most other smartphones, this will benefit the longer battery life.

Image quality

Image quality largely depends on the size of the image sensor. The chance of noise is reduced by using an image sensor with a large number of pixels, for example when photographing in low light. The further you have to zoom in, the greater the loss of quality of the photo.
Speed also plays a role in the quality of your photo. With an action photo you have to deal with fast movements, which means that your photo is often not sharp enough. But hand vibrations can also cause blurry photos.

The iPhone 13 Pro's larger sensors, larger lens size and faster apertures mean a significantly larger camera module compared to last year's iPhone 12 Pro. With the telephoto lens you can now optically zoom in three times instead of twice.

It is now also possible to approach the object to be photographed up to a distance of two centimeters for a macro photo.

The improved smartphones have enough features to get photos sharp. For example, the iPhone 13 Pro has a night mode on all cameras. Although the image is of course slightly distorted with a wide lens, the camera sensors of the ultra-wide-angle lens of the iPhone 13 Pro provide stunningly good photos at night. Night photography This makes things a whole lot easier with the iPhone. To photograph a starry sky, you can work with a shutter speed of ten seconds and if you can keep your hands still, the iPhone will correct everything for you. The iPhone 13 Pro introduced these extensive camera features.
