The 2016 Silver Camera Award, the Netherlands’ most prestigious prize for photojournalists, went to photographer Cigdem Yuksel for a photo series on Syrian child labor in Turkey.
The series in the International News Series, focuses on children between the ages of 7 and 14 who work in the textile and footwear industries in the eastern Turkish city of Gaziantep.
The Canon Silver Camera is the Netherlands’ most prestigious photojournalism competition. The competition has 9 categories, with a total of 16 winners competing for the grand prize.
The winners in the Innovative Photojournalism Award category are:
- Ruben Terlou, with the project ‘Langs de oevers van de Yangtze’
- Dirk-Jan Visser, with the project ‘De Asielzoekmachine’
- Leo Erken, with the project ‘Frieda en het ongedierte’
