Canon announced that it had expanded its EOS lineup with the new EOS 5D Mark IV. The EOS 5D Mark IV was, of course, the successor to the popular EOS 5D Mark III.
The camera features a 30.4-megapixel CMOS sensor, a wide dynamic range, a shooting speed of 7 frames per second (fps), internal 4K video recording, and built-in Wi-Fi and GPS. The EOS 5D Mark IV combines speed and resolution with movie capabilities and excellent performance in low-light situations.
The EOS 5D Mark IV was also the first EOS camera to feature the innovative Dual Pixel RAW file format, allowing photographers to optimize images in post-production by adjusting or correcting the point of focus, shifting foreground blur or reducing ghosting.
The EOS 5D Mark IV features Canon’s new 30.4-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, ensuring that images retain detail in both the brightest highlights and the darkest shadows. With an ISO range of 100 to 32,000—expandable from 50 to 102,400—it can photograph in virtually any light. The improved noise-reduction algorithm enhances image quality in low ambient light.
The camera has a DIGIC 6+ processor that delivers 7 fps at full resolution with full AF/AE tracking. With bursts of up to 21 RAW images or an unlimited number of JPEGs, photographers are always ready for the next shot.
Two New Lenses
Canon also introduced two powerful new L-series lenses to accompany the camera: the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM and the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM.
The EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM is a flexible, durable everyday lens, ideal for photographers who want edge-to-edge sharpness throughout the zoom range. Its focal length and f/4 aperture make it suitable for a wide variety of scenes, subjects and lighting conditions, while improved 4-stop IS and a new video EDM provide quiet aperture adjustment during filming.
For photographs that need to make an immediate impression through exceptionally high image quality, Canon proudly introduced the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM. The lens is optimized for high-resolution sensors such as the one in the EOS 5D Mark IV and delivers exceptional image quality for both professionals and serious enthusiasts.
The versatile 16-35mm focal-length range appeals to wedding photographers and photojournalists who work close to their subjects, while the fast, constant f/2.8 maximum aperture makes the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM a natural choice for anyone shooting in low light.
Price and Availability
The EOS 5D Mark IV became available in September 2016 with a suggested retail price of € 4,200.00. The 16-35mm f/2.8L III lens followed in November at € 2,670.00, and in December the 24-105mm f/4L IS II entered the market at € 1,280.00.
