About the photographer
Stanley Gontha is a sports photographer in Amsterdam and founder of photo agency Pro Shots, one of the best-known sports photography agencies in the Netherlands. His career began along the sidelines of first-division football, where he photographed matches for club programmes for teams such as Cambuur Leeuwarden, Helmond Sport and Sparta.
The 1994 FIFA World Cup became an important turning point. After that, his freelance work quickly grew into publications in ELF Voetbal Magazine, Aktueel, TV guides and Canal+. Stanley Gontha is now among the Dutch sports photographers with the most major final tournaments to their name. His photography revolves around timing, overview and the decisive sports moment: the second in which action, emotion and news value come together.
