Photographer Rob van Woerkom began his career as a ballet dancer, a fascination that started in his youth. To him, dancers were an example of artistic maturity. They seemed to possess a certain superiority, as if they carried a deep secret that could only be revealed through dance. Words did not seem enough; only dance could translate that mystery.
For sixteen years Rob van Woerkom was a ballet dancer with Dutch National Ballet. During that time he also began photographing. Throughout his ballet life, the art of dance was the most important source of inspiration for his photographs. He still photographs ballet dancers; they continue to fascinate him. That is what he wants to show in his work.
