About the photographer
Oscar de Wit is a photographer based in Apeldoorn who, since 2008, has focused on historical locations, old buildings, castles, libraries, and monumental interiors. He describes his style as "HDR-Oldstyle": atmospheric, authentic, and painterly, with a keen eye for light, detail, and the history of the site. When working with a model, he prioritizes respect for the location, the heritage, and the model's presence. His photography brings the past and present together in a stylish way, preserving the unique identity of every historical setting.
Oscar is a great match for clients looking to capture historical buildings, interiors, or unique objects in a timeless way. His photography is well-suited for castles, heritage sites, old libraries, artisanal crafts, and environments where atmosphere and storytelling are paramount. His approach is not about spectacle, but about enhancing the unique mood and significance of each historical location.
One photoshoot that has always stayed with him took place at Inveraray Castle in Scotland. He was granted a full day to photograph there and was unexpectedly given access to two additional rooms: a stunning library and a private chamber belonging to the Duke and Duchess. Moments like these perfectly reflect his way of working: observing carefully, preserving the character of a place, and making history tangible through imagery. He draws inspiration from masters like Rembrandt and Vermeer, as well as evening light, autumn colors, and Scottish and Irish folk music. His work can be summarized in three words: atmospheric, authentic, and painterly.

Op de foto staat een bijzonder item…Ik was met mijn vaste historisch model in kasteel Bornem in België en tijdens deze shoot kwamen we in de bibliotheek van de graaf en allereerst hing daar de grootste Bruegel tentoonstelling van de wereld en mocht mijn model zitten achter het originele bureau van Napoleon. Voor de film van Napoleon is er een replica gemaakt van dit bureau. In zijn hand houd hij een veer die uit 1700 komt en gewaxt …….hoe bijzonder is dat…….
