For 23 years, Eiko has been a commercial photographer with his own studio in Amsterdam. Beyond his passion for light and composition, he also teaches photography masterclasses. About the photographer
Eiko Waleson is an Amsterdam-based photographer who has been working in the field since 1984. From his own studio, he primarily creates architectural photography, portraits, advertising imagery, and technical photography. Light is his starting point; he likes to describe photography as "writing with light." His style is colorful and clear, characterized by simple compositions, subtle post-processing, and a deep love for Rembrandt lighting. Magical light, composition, and atmosphere form the core of his visual language.
Eiko enjoys working for offices, real estate agents, technical companies, and clients who require carefully crafted imagery. His approach is personal and engaged: clients become friends, and friends become clients. On-location shoots, telephoto lenses, music on set, and the pursuit of that one perfect shot define his way of working.
One assignment that has always stayed with him is the introduction of Smart in the Netherlands. It perfectly suits his combination of advertising photography, technical precision, and visual direction: a single strong image must not only be beautiful but also communicate instantly. He draws inspiration from Rembrandt van Rijn, Jo Misdom, Ernst Haas, other top photographers, and the nature around him. It always comes back to that ultimate photograph captured in magical light.
