Duco de Vries has roots in painting and developed into a photographer of portraits and fine art visual stories. His work is characterised by stillness, close attention and an almost painterly approach, informed by his background at the Amsterdam University of the Arts and the Gerrit Rietveld Academie.
In 2026, he organised Fotofestival WestFriesland in Medemblik. Through exhibitions, workshops and talks, the festival brought emerging and established photographers together on equal terms. As its initiator and organiser, De Vries aims to make creative talent visible and inspire a broad audience.
During this evening, he shares his vision of portrait and fine art photography, his approach to portraiture and the stories behind his most personal projects.
This talk is part of Fotokring Eemland’s 90th anniversary programme. Everyone with an interest in photography is welcome. Admission is free; advance registration with the organiser is required.
