In Carla Kogelman: A Closer Look, Museum Amersfoort presents a survey of the work of Amersfoort photographer Carla Kogelman. The exhibition shows dozens of black-and-white portraits and personal stories from Amersfoort and far beyond.
Kogelman looks with attention and without judgement. Her images are about everyday life, love, freedom, vulnerability, family, loss and identity. Through black-and-white photography, attention stays close to faces, gestures and small moments.
Stories up close
Visitors meet Giulia, who dances near the Koppelpoort, mother Anne and daughter Karen Sitalsing, and the story of Lúa and Nandini. The exhibition shows how care, family and connection can become visible in ordinary situations.
Audio tour and activities
An audio tour accompanies the exhibition, with stories from people portrayed in the photographs and from Carla Kogelman herself. For children there is a viewing and activity booklet, and in the Maak Mee Atelier visitors can photograph and experiment themselves.
Part of the work is also shown in the Mannenzaal, where Kogelman follows residents and caregivers of the St. Pieters en Bloklands Gasthuis in the series A Doorstep Away.
